Who decides ...?

Today, I read an article about a man named Jadav Payeng ( of Assam, India) , whose village was hit by flash floods of such intensity that the entire belt of trees were destroyed and the land left barren. He then noticed that many snakes lay dead as they had no place to take cover. This lone man, worked tirelessly for 12 years, with no help or support in any form from anyone, took it upon himself to nurture and grow an entire forest of flora and fauna. He began with bamboo shoots, other trees and also brought in red ants from nearby villages to nourish the soil and did all what he could. Now there is no vestige of barrenness and the entire river bank area is a dense forest that is home to all sorts of reptiles, snakes, crocks, even wild animals.

Recently, a nearby village was ravaged by a wild bunch of tuskers and the villagers demanded that the forest be cut down as the elephants that usually traverse through the new forest were now invading their villages as well.
Jadav, an uneducated lone man – stood the wrath of the entire village that saw no good in having a forest in their backyard… They argued – “of what use are a bunch of rouge, wild elephants that destroy crops and trample all our homes, and are a threat to our lives” ?

Now, in the food chain and evolution of life – every creature has its place for a specific reason. It evolved due to a pre-defined plan, now, did this plan include the proliferation of human kind alone? Did this million-year evolution take place just so that humans with their sophisticated needs and life style be the deciders of “ who is useful” “ who is useless” ? If that is the case, then how different is it from the way terrorists think….

Terrorists feel that the “ soft-hearted” humans with values, morals and beliefs have no place in the modern society and so, they too, just “ eliminate” us common people , because they feel they are superior and have earned the right to decide who lives and who goes.

Well, we are all, in the food chain ( so to speak), helpless puppets – we may live today and perish tomorrow but not entirely of our own will – it all is decided by someone else…
